Series: Making Marriage Work – Nurturing Strong Marriages in Parenting Seasons
In our home, we’re raising three beautiful children while juggling teenagehood, early childhood, homeschooling, ministry at CLC Kenya, coaching authors at ACABA, and building a reading culture through Mama Africa Book Box-MABB. Add to that dinner, dishes, devotions, and deadlines—and you’d think there’s no time left for just us.
But come midnight, when the last child has whispered their final “urgent” thought, and the house finally exhales, we find ourselves meeting again—not as co-managers of chaos, but as lovers, friends, and teammates. Sometimes it’s over a bar of chocolate, sometimes in prayer, and often in shared silence that doesn’t feel empty.
Practical Wisdom Rooted in the Word
Parenting has a way of turning your marriage into a relay race: “You do bath time, I’ll handle homework.” Functional, but dangerously mechanical if we’re not intentional. The Scriptures remind us, “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). Yes, even how you pass the remote, or laugh at a meme, or argue about who’s making that 11:47pm cup of tea.
The golden silence after bedtime? It’s not just a quiet moment. It’s sacred space. Holy ground where hearts can reconnect—even if the eyes are half-shut.
So, don’t underestimate the midnight hours. While the world sleeps, you can sow tiny seeds of intimacy. The world says, “You’re too tired to talk,” but the Word says, “Love never gives up” (1 Corinthians 13:7). That love might look like listening to a story you’ve already heard… twice. Or praying for the strength to forgive. Or choosing grace over sarcasm.
